Newark Knights' 2015 Bike Blessing

Since 1976, the Newark Knights MC have hosted their Mother's Day bike blessing in front of their club house on Springfield Ave in Newark, NJ.  Riders from near and far come together on this strip of asphalt where cars are detoured and any two (or three) wheeled vehicle is welcomed with open arms.  True to tradition, there was a chaplain making his way around to bless bikes and riders alike.  Although a bit overcast, the weather held out for the day

The official starting time of the event is noon, but most riders didn't shuffle in until around one o' clock.  The scene that unfolded was truly awesome to behold as it showed one of the best aspects of the motorcycling community: unity.  No matter the race, creed or style of motorcycle, everyone was there to enjoy the day and there was a generally jovial attitude among the crowd.

Boys in blue were on the scene doing crowd control as well as taking some time to admire the bikes as they rolled in.
It would seem that touring bikes are the favorite choice of the Newark Knights.

Jerk chicken with rice and beans being grilled up in a traditional "jerk-pan" style grill.
Those who showed up early lucking out and getting prime parking.

Not everyone there was on a cruiser or touring bike.  Sportbikes also made a strong showing for this event.

The chaplain as he makes his way around takes pause to enjoy an affectionate moment between a couple riders.
If you ever think your bike has too much motor, remember that Boss Hoss still exists.
Full on drag bikes were on the scene as well.

Among all the commotion there was also this gentleman was going around doing some freehand artwork.
